Dually® and ReCAP® Enable Safe ILI Entry, Isolation and Gas Preservation for West Coast Operator
A West Coast pipeline operator needed to run an in-line inspection (ILI) tool on a 16-inch pipeline to assess system integrity. WeldFit was brought in to perform a temporary isolation that would allow the inspection tool to enter the line safely and efficiently through a temporary launcher.
Once the ILI tool completed its run, the data revealed three locations requiring immediate repair. To proceed, the operator needed a dependable method to fully isolate the line while maintaining operational safety and emissions reduction goals.
WeldFit deployed the Dually® Double Block and Bleed line stop system to create a secure and stable isolation point for the repair work. Dually provided a straightforward setup with a smaller, more compact footprint compared to many traditional isolation systems. This simplified the on-site operation and reduced the amount of heavy equipment required, allowing the crew to work efficiently and with greater confidence in the stability of the isolated section.
To support emissions reduction and preserve product, WeldFit also utilized its ReCAP® recompression technology. Instead of venting or flaring gas from the isolated segment, ReCAP redirected it across the line stop into the live pipeline, maintaining system efficiency and eliminating unnecessary releases to the atmosphere. In less than two hours, the isolated section was safely reduced from 578 psi to 5 psi. This prevented an estimated 220,000 SCF of natural gas from being vented or flared, significantly lowering emissions and improving site safety.
Once all three repairs were completed, the Dually® system was safely removed, and the pipeline was returned to normal operation.
